Insights of a Six-Year-Old

The other day Haley asked me, "Mom, why do people care so much about presents and getting stuff at Christmas? I mean, it's just toys and hair things and stuff like that. I thought Christmas was supposed to be about being with our families and doing things that would make Jesus happy."

I was taken aback! I had been so worried about the kids getting caught up in the stuff (as Haley put it) that they would miss all of our efforts to teach them about the true meaning of Christmas. I was so happy to hear that Haley really got it. I told her how happy it made me to hear her say that, and that I was sure Jesus and Heavenly Father were happy with her, too. To which she replied: "Yes. But I do still like the toys a little." Well ... she is only six, after all!
