Eight is Great

We celebrated Haley's eighth birthday this weekend! Haley chose a chef-themed party, so we invited her friends over for a birthday luncheon where they prepared their own food. Haley wanted the colors to be baby blue with chocolate brown accents. And since the decor featured the ubiquitous Martha Stewart pom pom balls, we also used white carnations to mimic the balls' look.
The girls prepared personal lasagnas, bread sticks, and skewered salads-on-a-stick, and then they decorated the aprons that they had been wearing while their food cooked.
After that, they decorated cupcakes which we placed in little cupcake boxes to take home. And I failed to take any pictures of the cupcakes the girls made or the cute boxes, so you'll just have to trust me that the girls did a great job. And don't worry moms: your daughters only consumed about three pounds of frosting each in the process.

Finally it was time to eat! Party goers from left to right: Natalie, Sadie, Haley, Annika, MariLeft to right: Camille, Tatyana, Mylee, Avery, AbbyAfter Chris and the boys got back from McDonald's (I'd banished them during the party) we sang Happy Birthday and had cake and ice cream. The best news of the day was that we finally used up the last of the super tall candles that I bought when Haley turned five. I think the novelty has long since worn off!I think it's safe to assume that Haley had a good time, considering she told me no less than 15 times that day that I was the best mom ever. I guess one day out of 365 ain't half bad, right? Happy birthday to my sweet Haley! I hope eight will be your best year yet.

How fun! Love the Martha Stewart pompoms. (My problem with them is that I can't bring myself to throw away all the ones I made for the last R.S. activity.) And the cake is awesome!

What a great idea for a party! The cake looks fantastic, and I love the pom pom, ball hanger thingers hanging from the ceiling. My sister Joslyn did those for her little girl's 1st b-day. I think they are so much more fun and cute than balloons!
